Enter RTCHEXEAGLE to find matching Hex items; Enter RTCHEX to find our entire Hex Collection; Enter RTCPARTY into our Search field to find our Party Collection Items. As we add listings we reference matching items that we also offer. In reality there may be a lag between the time we make this comment and are actually able to get all the listings up and running. So if you see something you like and want the matching glassware, or the matching fruit skewer or drink stirrers to match one of our glass themes. please message me. I am working very hard at getting everything listed, but of course this all takes time.

Make your selections from the drop-down options. If you opted for custom text please enter your text in the provided text field. Also, please double-check your spelling. If you do not enter any text, then the meaning of the hex will be engraved on the back.

Each sign has its own personality . . . the wood may be a bit different, it may be painted slightly differently, the design may have been modified a bit, an imperfection here or there, your customization added, etc. They make wonderful house-warming gifts, as well as a me-to purchase "chust for nice"! These laser-engraved Pennsylvania Dutch Hex Signs are crafted from premium hardwood and hardwood veneers in a variety of sizes and wood species. After the hex design is laser-engraved into the wood it is cut to the desired size. Then its meaning and/or any custom text is engraved on the back. After lasering, the hex designs are either hand-painted or darkened with natural brown to make the engraved design "pop". The final hex sign includes an informational card, explaining the meaning of the design and symbols in the hex (see explanation of meanings below).

Hex signs are normally painted using the primary colors - blue, red, green and yellow. (If you dig deeper into Hex Lore, each of these colors has a meaning). We use these same colors, when painting the hexes. However, if you opt for the dark-brown filled then note that we have dedicated a great deal of time to creating the hex designs so that the design looks great even when not differentiated with colors. All versions are beautiful and a matter of choice.

T H E - B A C K - S T O R Y:
Hex signs are a form of Pennsylvania Dutch folk art, related to fraktur, found in the Fancy Dutch tradition. Being in the midst of PA Dutch country we see hex signs on homes, businesses and barns. Many folks attach meanings to the symbols and colors in the signs. We do include this information, but I see the hexes as purely decorative, or "Chust for nice" as in the local dialect. Almost all of the hex signs represent Luck, Goodwill and/or Happiness. Interestingly Hex signs are a Pennsylvania Dutch custom, not to be confused with the Amish who did not adopt the custom of decorating their barns and do not use hex signs to this day.

We have PA Dutch in our blood and grew up with our Grandma and Mom speaking Dutch whenever they did not want us kids to know what they were saying. Even to this day Dutch phrases, such as snicklefritz, nix-nux, rutching around and Gott Im Himmel were directed to our children and now to our grandchildren! My kids even learned Dutch in pre-school and we can all sing Happy Birthday in Dutch!

We love taking the traditional designs and making them laser-friendly. Marrying these folk-lore symbols with new technology was a bit tricky, but well worth the results. Offering wooden designs first was the obvious place to start, but now we have designs in many other substrates such as acrylic, sun-catchers, laserable metallics, stained glass and paint-your-own kits.
